GIS for Natural Ressources Management - Dakar Workshop - May 15-16 2009

This two-day workshop, attended by approximately 25 people primarily representing West African, East African and North African countries, provided participants with an overview of the value of geomatics (and GIS in particular), as well as open source software. It was a natural successor to the eNRM workshop held during the previous three days, as several issues around GIS were raised during the earlier workshop

 

Objectives/Objectifs :

 

  • Learn about GIS and more generally about how geospatial data collection, analysis and representation could be used strategically and appropriately to enhance the research planning, implementation and communication processes /Démontrer le potentiel et les bénéfices potentiels des Systèmes d’Information Géographique et plus spécifiquement à savoir de quelle façon des ensembles de données géoréférencées peuvent être exploités afin de bonifier des projets de recherche ou certaines applications.

 

  • Introduce the FOSS GIS and explore the possibility of strengthening an African FOSS GIS mapping community / Introduire les Logciels libres et explorer les possibilitésde renforcement de l’utilisation du Logiciel libre et Open source en SIG par la communauté Africaine
